About Derwent Dam Museum

The Derwent Dam Museum (also known as the Derwent Valley Museum) is housed in the west tower of the Derwent Dam on the Derwent Reservoir in Derbyshire. The exhibition houses many interesting displays and items associated with Operation Chastise, better known as the Dam Busters raids carried out by Royal Air Force 617 Squadron on 16th and 17th May 1943.

In addition, the museum also chronicles the lost villages of Derwent and Ashopton which were flooded in the 1930's during the construction of the reservoirs.

The museum is privately owned and operated by Vic Hallam on a non-profit basis. Vic is often in attendance during museum opening times and is always ready to answer questions from visitors. The museum is open every Sunday and Bank Holiday throughout the year from 10am until 4pm. Admission is free although donations towards the upkeep of the museum are always welcome, no matter how small.
