A history of the Derbyshire Dams of Howden, Derwent and Ladybower featuring the Lost Villages of Birchinlee, Derwent and Ashopton. "The Derwent Valley Water Board was formed in 1899, with powers to build six dams, from 1901 the Upper Derwent Valley Faced nearly 50 years of dam construction. With Howden and Derwent came the village of Birchinlee, to house the vast workforce needed for the project. Early 1935 saw the Ladybower Dam construction begin, when complete the gains in water storage would be vast but the loss of the once historic villages of Ashopton and Derwent meant a high price had to be paid. This unique video tells the story of those Dams and the Lost Villages of the Upper Derwent Valley."
